WebCystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disorder that affects multiple organ systems, primarily the respiratory and digestive systems. It is caused by a mutation in the CFTR gene, which codes for a protein that regulates the movement of salt and water in and out of cells. WebFibrous dysplasia happens when abnormal fibrous (scar-like) tissue replaces healthy bone. The fibrous tissue weakens the bone over time, which can lead to fractures (breaks) and misshapen bones. Some people with fibrous dysplasia have no symptoms, or only a few symptoms, usually in one bone (monostotic).
